Meet our assistant, Hiwa!

Hello! My name is Leihiwa Campbell. I am 15 years old and I LOVE CROSSFIT! I am the founder of  Living In Youth, a Non-Profit Organization, that provides resources for overweight youth so they can live out a healthy lifestyle. Also, I am currently enrolled in the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) to become a certified Youth Exercise Specialist. I recently found Crossfit this past summer (2013) through a summer program that I was very unexpectedly signed up for (my sister signed me up and then told me about it). My first dose of a WOD was amazing. The positive support, encouragement, and energy that floods the room at all times (especially at Crossfit Kona) is something that nobody will ever be able to find at a typical gym in a million years. My journey actually starts around the age of 12. I was 220lbs., diagnosed with pre-diabetes, had a resting heart rate of 108, and was on my way to taking high blood pressure medication. For my 13th birthday I was privileged a gym membership and went through 3 personal trainers in two years, and along with that came 40lbs. off ! That’s when I was inspired to give back and start Living In Youth. In February 2013 I was approved to be fiscally sponsored by another Non-Profit Organization, Friends of the Future, and I now use their (501)c3 Non-Profit status. Even though music is my passion, I have a new found love of making people have smiley faces and changing lives through inspiration. Crossfit has made an imprint of greatness in my life that I will never forget. I’ve done and am still doing things that I never thought I could ever do and I have the best coaches/supporters ever. I am now  working with Crossfit Kona Kids as a volunteer and I’m super honored to be apart of such an awesome community 😀 !
